I finally decided to put all my cakes in one place so I created this blog--mostly for me to record my fondant cake decorating journey.

Baby Shower Cake

Here's my latest cake--done for a baby shower.  A friend of mine, due in less than a week, is going to be surprised with the gender so we went with a brown zebra to match her crib bedding!

This was my first attempt at doing the zebra stripes.  Wasn't too hard, but the brown fondant was not easy to work with and dried out incredibly fast.  This was my first time buying pre-colored fondant, so I am wondering if that was why.

This one took ALL day, but like the rest of them, I learned a lot and had a great time with it!

Dr.Seuss Cupcakes

Adorable right? Wish I could take credit for the cute Dr. Seuss cupcake toppers, but I can't. The host of the baby shower made those. It was an adorable shower with lots of red and blue! Of course to match the color scheme, I made red velvet cupcakes with a tourqoise butter cream frosting!

And what do you think of my new cupcake stand? I made some cupcakes for a friend and this was her thank you to me! Seriously, so thoughtful and a great addition to my little collection of cake/cupcake stands!

Congrats to Cindy and Tim who are welcoming their first baby boy in just a few weeks!

Bunco Babes Night

Have you ever played BUNCO before?  I never had...until last night!  It was a blast--seriously, my mouth hurt from smiling and laughing so hard!  Pink and black everywhere--the decor, the food, and the prizes not to mention we all wore pink as well!!  Adorable.

And...of course, some cupcakes to add to the pink and black evening!  I had such a great time making these--the colors worked and these cupcakes were quite simple to make.  My son took a three hour nap so I was able to really take my time and get some things done ahead of time--my favorite!  I love it when I can assemble all the toppers ahead of time and then just plop them on the cupcakes once I have them frosted.

SO MUCH FUN!!!

Niece's baptism cake

I had a great time making this one for my niece's baptism celebration this past weekend!

I think it was due to the fact that I did a lot of the work ahead of time so it didn't seem to take nearly as long as usual!  I also loved the colors we chose for this one--a nice pink and a turquoise/blueish color.  I loved the ribbon and the flower and everything else about it.

I got my inspiration for this cake from this one--so adorable right?

Maybe one day I'll find the patience to create this entire thing!  Until then, I just get ideas from it, or should I say copy it exactly.  I am not gonna lie, I am a huge copy cat!  (Wish I knew where I even found this one in the first place so I could give credit to the person who created it.)

Lessons learned from this one:  start a day ahead of time--makes life so much easier and makes it seem like it takes a lot less time and clean up!

Questions I have from this one:  How to get such a sharp edge on the rim of the cake, rather than a rounded edge...Hmmmm....anyone know any tricks?

Flower Cupcakes

A few weeks ago some friends of ours invited us to a cupcake party!!  It was a blast!  The goal was to make your tastiest and best looking cupcake and all the guests at the party would then vote.  We had a great time!  Oh and these babies got me first place for looks!

Thanks to my newest cake decorating tool, this handy daisy cutter, I was able to bust these babies out quite fast.  It was the baking of the cupcakes, the making of the frosting, all the clean up that makes the whole process quite long!
Since these are the cupcakes I am making for my niece's baptism in a couple of weeks, I thought it would be perfect to get a little practice in!

Then a couple days later, a girl who was in attendance at the cupcake party asked if I would make these for an activity our church was having!  I of course couldn't decline and took the opportunity to get some more practice in!  Let me tell you, I am getting good at cuttin' those little flowers out!

I was so mad I forgot to get a picture with them all displayed on the cake stand.  Grrrrr....I will definitely remember to do that next time I make them!

Still lovin' this!  People are now asking me if I am going to start up a business.  Hmmmmm...still very unsure if I want to take that route with my new found hobby, but the thought is definitely there.

Colorado Cake

My Sister in Law has some friends who are moving to Colorado and she wanted a little cake made for them as a little goodbye. My mind started thinking Colorado--mile high city, trees, snow, sun, skiing, Columbine State Flower--(yeah making that out of fondant definitely wasn't going to happen). I decided to go with a blue background to represent the blue skies, a little snow hill, and some snow capped trees with snow falling in between. I also wanted to try out my new alphabet fondant cutters--they were the biggest pain in the world to get out of the cutters--but I am glad to have those now for future cakes. My little cake supply collection is really starting to grow. The more stuff I get the faster and more convenient this cake decorating stuff goes! This time I started working on things the day before--had all the fondant colored and cut out the day before! Definitely a smart idea!

Still loving fondant cake decorating and I'm getting faster with each cake I do, smarter with each cake I do, and much more confident for sure!!

Easter Cupcakes

A little Easter fun in the form of cupcakes!  The kids loved them and I had a blast doing them.  But man, does it take a steady hand to place each of those little eyes and those little pink noses.  Had a blast making these little guys, though this was no quick little project!
Wish I would have captured his face in this picture.  He was so excited and had been waiting all day to finally eat one!
Zach thoroughly enjoyed eating Mr. Bunny.  He ate the entire thing and ate some of the cupcake too!
